MihimihiKia ora koutou Welcome to this important kaupapa. Toi te Taiao: the Bioethics Council was established to engage all New Zealanders in korero on the cultural, ethical and spiritual dimensions of biotechnology advances, and the wider implications of these advances for our society. The New Zealand position on bioethics will be wonderfully unique because we are an independent nation comprising many peoples. In particular, our views will reflect those of the tangata whenua. During early 2005 Toi te Taiao: the Bioethics Council will be engaging in a 'conversation' with New Zealanders on the topic of 'Xenotransplantation: Animal-To-Human Transplantation'. During early 2005 Toi te Taiao: the Bioethics Council will be engaging in a 'conversation' with New Zealanders on the topic of 'Xenotransplantation: Animal-To-Human Transplantation'. The transplantation of living cells, tissues or organs from animals to humans raises important cultural, ethical and spiritual concerns. It is important to Māori because it poses issues for tikanga and the extent to which it can be incorporated into mātauranga Māori (knowledge). To assist with the public dialogue, Toi te Taiao: the Bioethics Council has produced this panui. We hope you will be inspired to take part in the coming korero. You can be involved by attending one of the hui, by taking part in an online forum, or by making a submission. Please register your interest by email xeno@bioethics.org.nz or phone 04 916 7645. Further information about these and the Council's work is available on our website: www.bioethics.org.nz. Heoi anō Jill White, Chair [ Previous Page | Next Page ]
