Bioetech Regulatory WayfinderHosted by the Ministry of Research, Science and Technology, the Biotech Regulatory Wayfinder provides information on what is involved in the regulation of biotechnology in New Zealand, and links to further information. National Centre for Health and Social EthicsA research, teaching and consultancy centre located in the Faculty of Health Studies, at Auckland University of Technology, devoted to the study of health and social ethics. Its purpose is to promote clear and compassionate thinking about all aspects of health and social care in order to improve practice for the givers and receivers of care. In particular, the National Centre pursues scholarship and research in applied ethics and health care analysis, teaches related postgraduate and undergraduate courses, organises seminars and conferences, conducts short courses and workshops and undertakes a range of consultancies. New Zealand Institute of Gene Ecology, University of CanterburyGene ecology is a new interdisciplinary field that is unique in its combination of genetics and biochemistry with bioethics, the philosophy of science, and social studies of science and technology. The New Zealand Institute of Gene Ecology aims to contribute to the increased understanding and more effective management of emerging biotechnologies. Its membership includes natural scientists, social scientists, and philosophers within and outside academia. The institute has a social science and philosophy sub group that researches the ethical, cultural, social, and political meanings and impacts of biotechnologies. The Nathaniel Centre - the New Zealand Catholic Bioethics CentreThe Centre was established in 1999 as an agency of the New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference. While it deals with the same reality as secular bioethics centres, it seeks to bring the moral tradition of the Catholic Church to issues in bioethics. University of Otago Bioethics CentreThe Bioethics Centre at the University of Otago aims to encourage and co-ordinate teaching and research; to stimulate informed public debate; and to provide a consultation and resource service for health professionals and others in the community. The Centre has carried out research projects and consultancy work for a number of government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and professional and community organisations. Topic areas have included: ethical issues underlying the definition of core health services; ethics and biotechnology; protecting the rights of the vulnerable; euthanasia; and issues surrounding the availability and use of drugs. The Centre is rated as a "Centre of Research Excellence" in the University of Otago, with an international reputation. Journal of Bioethical InquiryA fully peer-reviewed international journal which focuses on ethical and legal issues in health care ethics, health law, environmental ethics, research ethics, and health policy. The journal adopts an interdisciplinary approach.
